Summary: This resolution would propose an amendment to the state constitution providing that “Marriage, to be valid and recognized in the State of West Virginia, shall consist only of the legal union between one man and one woman. Neither this Constitution, nor any other provision of law shall be construed to require that marital status, or the legal incidents thereof, be conferred upon any other domestic union that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance or effect of marriage.” The resolution would require approval by a 2/3 majority in each chamber before going on the ballot.
