Summary: This resolution would propose an amendment to the state constitution providing that “Only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this state and its political subdivisions. This state and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for same sex relationships to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities or effects of marriage.” The resolution would require approval by a 2/3 majority in each chamber before going on the ballot.

Status: The resolution was introduced February 11, 2009. It was postponed indefinitely on March 30, 2009.
