Help Elect Pro-Equality Candidates to Virginia State House of Delegates
This year, all 100 members of the Virginia State House of Delegates are up for re-election and your involvement could help push fair-minded candidates over the edge to victory. On November 3rd, we have the chance to retire anti-equality delegates who have consistently stood in opposition to the basic ideals of equality and fairness in Virginia.
The election is less than two months away, and HRC has identified some great candidates who need your help and support. At the top of the list is John Bell, who is challenging Del. Bob Marshall. Delegate Marshall takes pride in calling himself a "right wing extremist" and Virginia’s "chief homophobe". Even if you’re not in Marshall’s district, his name may sound familiar. Marshall was a co-author of the infamous Marshall-Newman amendment which wrote discrimination into Virginia's Constitution by defining marriage as solely between one man and one woman and banning any other legal recognition for same-sex couples and families.
This November, let’s make sure to elect more fair-minded voices to represent us in Richmond and send Marshall and other anti-equality incumbents packing!

John Bell is challenging one of the most homophobic legislators in Virginia and this race is our top priority. HRC has already committed to funding a dedicated field staff person to work in Bell’s campaign.
"I want to thank each and every one of you for the work you do through HRC and elsewhere for equal rights for all Americans. I'm thrilled that HRC is playing such an active role in my campaign because we're going up against the most conservative member of the VA House of Delegates who calls himself a 'right-wing extremist' and 'Virginia's chief homophobe.'
This election is a referendum on the intolerance and discrimination that Del. Marshall brings onto the House floor and enshrined into the Virginia Constitution through [the] Marshall-Newman [amendment]. If we raise enough money, knock on thousands of doors, and make thousands of phone calls, we're going to win this race and the 13th district will finally have a representative who fights for equal rights. Join me. Our time is now."
Robin Abbott

Once elected to serve the 93rd district, I'll work tirelessly, just as I have in my professional career, to ensure that all Virginians are treated fairly, with dignity and respect at home, in their workplace, and in their community."
Luke Torian
"It's great to have the support of the Human Rights Campaign.

I look forward to working together to keep Virginia Beach safe for everyone and make it an even better place to raise a family."
