Election 2006
We made history in this election. We defeated some of the most anti-gay politicians in history, and we elected 211 fair-minded candidates. And, most importantly of all, the U.S. Congress now has a pro-equality majority. To learn more, visit HRC’s Election 2006 site.
In the 2006 election cycle, the Human Rights Campaign:
- Donated $1.2 million in Political Action Committee funds to fair-minded candidates and parties.
- Sent more than 84 staff members to mobilize thousands of HRC members and supporters.
- Trained 22 Youth College participants on how to run a winning campaign, then sent them to key campaigns in 18 states.
- Funded independent expenditure campaigns opposing six anti-gay candidates for Congress.
- Donated more than $1 million to state GLBT organizations and ballot initiative campaigns.
- Endorsed more than 220 candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House and governorships.
- Recruited thousands of volunteers for campaign work in more than 20 states.
- Worked to secure fair-minded leadership for 15 state legislative chambers in 10 key states.
- Spent more than $5 million in election-related activities.
