New Jersey Ends Tax Exemption for Group Rejecting Civil Union Ceremonies
The state of New Jersey rescinded a tax exemption for the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, a group that has refused to permit civil union ceremonies at a seaside boardwalk pavilion. The decision was prompted by a letter from Garden State Equality, the state’s LGBT advocacy group, pointing out that, since the pavilion is not open to all persons on an equal basis, the group is not entitled to an exemption from property taxes.
