Summary: This resolution proposed a constitutional amendment (requiring passage by 2/3 majorities in each legislative chamber, and approval by the voters at the next general election), providing that “A marriage between a man and a woman shall be the only legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.”

Status: HJR 17 was defeated on February 6, 2009 by a 25-35 vote (40 votes were needed to advance the measure). The resolutions died when the legislature adjourned March 5, 2009.
