Groundspark Re-Releases "It's Elementary" DVD, Toolkit for Welcoming Schools
The HRC Foundation’s Family Project is partnering with GroundSpark’s Respect For All Project to create, pilot and distribute new resources for the safe schools movement. Ten years after releasing the original "It’s Elementary: Talking About Gay Issues in School," GroundSpark is now re-releasing the film on DVD with new special features, including a 10 year follow up documentary, "It’s STILL Elementary." The HRC Foundation co-sponsored the new film’s premieres in New York City and Washington, DC. The DVDs will be available beginning February 15, 2008 and can be pre-ordered on the Respect For All Project's website.Drawing on some of the work of the Family Project's new Welcoming Schools guide, GroundSpark is also releasing a groundbreaking 140-page toolkit for community organizing, professional development and K-8 Curriculum that is designed to help parents and educators put the ideas of "It’s Elementary" into action. The manual will complement the HRC Foundation's comprehensive Welcoming Schools guide, which GroundSpark is piloting at three elementary schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Together, the HRC Foundation's Welcoming Schools guide and GroundSpark’s re-release of "It’s Elementary" will catalyze a new generation of educators to break the silence around LGBT issues and take action to change school climates.
