Iowa law seems to implicitly accept surrogacy agreements, but no statute directly addresses the topic. The issue of surrogacy agreements involving lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) individuals has not yet been considered by the courts.

Kansas permits individuals to amend their sex on their birth certificates.

Kansas Custody and Visitation Law

There are no published cases dealing with lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender parents. State law, however, does not seem to permit the consideration of factors that do not affect the best interests of the child to be used in custody and visitation determinations. There are no reported or published opinions dealing with same-sex co-parents.

Kansas Donor Insemination Law

There is no provision in Kansas law on donor insemination performed on an unmarried woman.

Kansas Hate Crimes Law

State law covers hate crimes based on sexual orientation but not gender identity.
