Human Rights Campaign Honors the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy

WASHINGTON - Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who led the march for equality and launched the civil rights movement that ended segregation in America. His leadership and example of non-violence paved the way for many others to work to end discrimination.

Said Solmonese:

“Today we remember the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King. He was a courageous and prescient leader, and his belief that ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’ continues to inspire the work of millions of fair-minded Americans dedicated to his dream. We also remember the contributions of his wife, Coretta Scott King, who passed away just last year. She was an eloquent and outspoken advocate for Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.

“We are greatly indebted to the sacrifices they made to make this country a better place and I hope that today will be a day to honor fully their legacy.”

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
