We Are a Family

By Lisa

I am currently a senior in high school. My story starts back in grade school.

My dad is transgender. When I was in fifth grade, my dad finally came out and started taking hormone replacement. It was a little weird at first, but it wasn't really bad. My dad is still the same person, just with different looks on the outside.

After my dad’s sex-change operation things started to return to normal, after being a little chaotic for a couple years. I was in seventh grade by then.

My parents still live together, and still love each other. The only problem I have with the whole situation is other people who think negatively of us simply from what they see. They judge us, and it is completely unfair.

We are a family and we love one another, no matter what happens.
