Summary: This bill, the Domestic Partner Rights and Responsibilities Act, would permit adult couples (same-sex and opposite-sex) to register as domestic partners. Domestic partners would be entitled to the same legal obligations, rights, responsibilities, and benefits as spouses under state law. The bill would also prohibit discrimination based on domestic partner status.

Status: This bill was introduced January 15, 2008. On January 15, 2008, the House Committee on Consumer and Public Affairs voted 4-3 in favor of the bill. On January 21, 2008, the bill passed the House Judiciary Committee by a 9-4 vote. On January 24, 2008, the bill passed the House by a 33-31 vote. The Senate declined to take action on the bill and it died when the legislature adjourned February 14, 2008.
