Mississippi SB 2248
Summary: This bill would have "clarified" that unmarried adults who are cohabiting outside of marriage with one or more sexual partners may not adopt under Mississippi law and would provide that state courts shall not recognize an adoption from another state or jurisdiction by more than one individual that is not married under the terms of Mississippi law. [Note: Mississippi law currently prohibits adoption by “couples of the same gender”.]
Status: This bill was introduced January 12, 2009 and assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill died in committee February 3, 2009.
