New Hospital Standards from The Joint Commission
In January 2010, The Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, published new and revised requirements to improve patient–provider communication applicable to the hospital accreditation program.
These new requirements include an updated standard that prohibits discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression.
