Sermons & Spiritual Reflections: Focusing on Family Values

Rev. Susan Russell
All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena, CA
Nov. 24, 2005

HRC archives a collection of Sermons and Spiritual Reflections by pro-GLBT clergy from across the country.  Drawing from the holy texts of their faith traditions, the authors of each selection present perspectives that affirm the lives of the GLBT faithful and advocate for equality from their faith tradition.  The collection’s interview transcriptions, sermons, coming out worship celebrations and spiritual contemplations are ideal for either group study or individual reflection.

Excerpt:
“My own reconfigured family is an outward and visible sign of the 'family values' I’m talking about. We are parents and children; ex-spouses and partners; girlfriends and grandmas. And every time we gather I am amazed at the miracle of how traditional this non-traditional family has become for us -- how blessed we are to have weathered all the changes that have come our 2 way over the years -- how God has enabled us to stay family through all of it: and I am overwhelmed with gratitude. My family may not make James Dobson’s list of ones to focus on -- but it is mine and God is there and we are blessed.”
