Religious Leaders Speak Out for GLBT Rights

Clergy members from all 50 states will gather on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, April 17, to show their support for equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. These religious leaders will lobby Congress in support of two major pieces of civil rights legislation — a bill to prevent hate violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity and another to ban workplace discrimination against GLBT employees.

Some of the most prominent religious voices in the country today will take part in this event, including renowned evangelical Christian leader Peggy Campolo and African-American Pentecostal Bishop Carlton Pearson.

Each of these clergy members has taken a firm religious stance in support of fairness for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. This gathering represents a historic showing of religious support for GLBT equality.
