Diversity Councils
Unlike employee resource groups, most diversity councils are composed solely of senior-level leadership such as a business's Chief Executive Officer. The function of diversity councils differs from employer to employer.
Generally speaking, diversity councils serve to set diversity initiatives within a company and then oversee the implementation of these initiatives. Diversity councils may be responsible for approving new employee resource groups, developing diversity training, and guiding supplier diversity efforts.
Diversity councils can be very successful in communicating the business case for diversity to all levels of an employer's operations and have been called the "cornerstones" of corporate diversity efforts by DiversityInc.
A diversity council should include GLBT-specific issues as part of its goals and responsibilities.
