Ending Unfair Tax Treatment
Under federal tax law, same-sex couples who receive domestic partner benefits have to pay taxes on those benefits — but opposite-sex couples get their spousal benefits tax-free. To end this injustice, a new bill has been introduced in Congress, the Domestic Partner Tax Equity for Health Plan Beneficiaries Act.
Candidates to Debate GLBT Issues
Presidential candidates will gather next month to discuss GLBT equality at a forum presented by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and the Logo network. Candidates currently confirmed to appear include (in alphabetical order): Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd, John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich and Barack Obama.
Presidential Forum on GLBT Issues
On Thursday, presidential candidates gathered in Los Angeles for a two-hour forum on issues affecting the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the United States. Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese, Melissa Etheridge and esteemed journalist Jonathan Capehart appeared as panelists at the event.
