Why should we pay more for insurance?

Terry Earls, 29, and Troy Kaser, 27, have been together going on five years. In mid 2000, Troy and Terry each left their jobs in the software industry to join a small start-up company. For a while, things were going well. However, it became evident in late 2001 that the future of the company was precarious. The small company originally offered health care benefits, but with the market conditions souring, the benefits were no longer being offered.

In Sickness and in Health

My partner Ronny and I have been together for more than eight years. When I met him, he had end-stage renal failure, meaning that neither of his kidneys was functioning. He had to do dialysis three times a week just to stay alive.

Kept Apart in the Emergency Room

My partner, Lisa Brodoff, and I have been together for more than 25 years. We have two children, ages 16 and 19. About 20 years ago we had a two-year legal battle, here in Washington, allowing our children to legally have two moms. And here we are, almost two decades later, still fighting for some simple, basic rights.

This Is My Story

This is a story about how I met Eric, and almost immediately fell in love. We both had to be coaxed into meeting, and we didn’t even speak to each other for the first part of the evening, but we eventually wound up conversing until daylight broke the following morning.

Simple, Basic Rights

Shelley and I have been together for more than four years. We were "legally" married in the state of Oregon for a short period of time in 2004. But because our marriage is no longer considered a legal binding contract, we are not afforded the same rights afforded all married heterosexual couples.

Hospital Experiences

There is a law on the books in Tennessee that keeps us from having a civil marriage. The Federal Marriage Amendment would write discrimination into the Constitution. This is just unfortunate hate speech.
