Soulmates

We met at the same time as the characters from the movie Brokeback Mountain. This was a time when we could be refused alcohol; our publications could be seized by the post office as "obscene"; and television, theater and movies wouldn’t depict us.

High School Sweethearts

She was a sophomore in high school, and I a year younger. I changed a class so that I could have a different elective with a friend of mine. Little did I know that class would change my life.

The Newlyweds

Ed and I met 39 years ago as teachers in the Greenwich Connecticut Public School system and became immediate friends. In a year, we became partners for life.

Crossing the Border

I can’t describe the thrill we felt when the Canadian marriage commissioner said these words to us. To know that an entire country recognized our love was amazing.

Having ‘The Talk’ With Mom

My girlfriend and I recently had "the talk" with my mother. She is a strong-willed, fiercely independent single mother. I was raised to value the importance of acceptance, tolerance and most of all a social awareness. But even knowing her forward-thinking, liberal views, I had some fear that she would be disappointed.
