Senator Russ Feingold Publicly States Support for Full Marriage Fairness

‘Senator Feingold's public support for marriage fairness is the type of leadership this country so desperately needs and deserves,’ said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., released a statement today publicly lending his support to full marriage equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans.

In response to the announcement, Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement:

“Senator Feingold’s public support for marriage fairness is the type of leadership this country so desperately needs and deserves. Senator Feingold is taking a common-sense step toward fairness. He understands that America is at its best when all members of our society are treated equally.”

In a release today, Feingold issued a statement saying, “As I said at the Kenosha County listening session, gay and lesbian couples should be able to marry and have access to the same rights, privileges and benefits that straight couples currently enjoy.”

The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender political organization with members throughout the country. It effectively lobbies Congress, provides campaign support and educates the public to ensure that LGBT Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
