Why intern at HRC?

Fighting for LGBT rights has been my passion since high school and has stayed with me at the collegiate level. The ability to spend a semester in Washington, DC and work for an organization I truly admire was no question.

What do you like most about working at HRC?

The overall environment of HRC is of a dream. The other interns and staff are so knowledgeable and open. Every morning when I walk into the building I feel motivated and excited to learn about different facets of the movement.

What issue is most pressing for the queer community on your campus?

Visibility. The LGBT community on my campus is relatively small and goes unnoticed by the campus at large.

What do you do when you’re not fighting for equality?

I spend lots of time with my girlfriend, gallivanting around New York City and staying up on upcoming events and news regarding the LGBT community.

What was the last song you downloaded?

Deborah Cox – Beautiful U R. The techno remix is great too.

What upcoming events are you most excited about?

I am pretty excited about the National Cherry Blossom Festival. I have heard it is really beautiful and definitely something to be seen.

Who would you like to have dinner with?

Ellen DeGeneres. I know it is probably totally cliché, but just living her life openly in the spotlight is a great form of activism for the community. And, anyone with a sense of humor has my heart.

What advice would you give to other LGBT students?

Live out and live open. The biggest impact you can make on others is to just be yourself.
