At the Intersection: Through the Eyes of a Young Bisexual Latina Woman
As a bisexual Latina artist with many friends who are gay, lesbian and transgender, I thought the report was really beautifully done. It highlighted the important idea that most LBGT people of color are concerned with the same issues that concern people from all walks of life, like job security, education, healthcare and personal safety. I felt that the report mirrored many of the experiences that my friends and I have had, both positive and negative. For example, in my generation, people seem to be more accepting of LBGT people in general. However, I have also seen my LBGT peers face challenges in their religious communities and discrimination when receiving healthcare. The block quotes that were used throughout the report were also very effective in illustrating the diversity of the participants and their lived experiences. I felt that the quotes added a powerful voice to the research that was being presented. In addition, I felt that the report was very open-ended. There was no conclusion presented, and that helped to underscore the idea that this report made a conscious effort to really listen to its participants. Because this report ends without a concrete conclusion, a number of possibilities are implied. These possibilities include the hope that this discussion will continue and that hopefully, the inequality and the discrimination against LBGT people of color will end.
