The Newlyweds
By Harry and Edward
Ed and I met 39 years ago as teachers in the Greenwich Connecticut Public School system and became immediate friends. In a year, we became partners for life.
On July 29, 2005, we got married in Massachusetts and have been blessed by the total acceptance of our friends and students. We were completely overwhelmed by the response to our wedding this summer and are still receiving greetings and gifts from old friends who have heard about the wedding.
Now we are retired and living in State College, Pa. — the home of Penn State University. It has been a perfect fit. We have spoken to classes at the university about our life and have felt good sharing our happiness.
On a recent trip to Italy and we had our wedding acknowledged and blessed by a Catholic priest. We only hope other couples will continue to enjoy the happiness we have.
At this stage in our lives our main concern is the federal inheritance tax. In the future, with the help of organizations like HRC, couples will have equal rights. It may be too late for us, but then again I never dreamed that we would be able to legally marry, even if it is not recognized in Pennsylvania. We are still married and no one can take that away from us.
