I obtained my green card when I married my sweetheart in 2002. Our relationship did not turn out how we expected, so we got an amicable separation two years ago. Since then I have fallen in love with an amazing woman, and now some people claim that my previous marriage was false and done only for green card purposes.

I was born and raised in South Africa, immigrated to Canada at 14, and after I graduated university, moved to the United States to work. A month after arriving in North Carolina, I met Trish in a little bookshop, over lemonade and the only two queer books in the whole store. We've been together ever since.

He came to this country in the fall of 1999 to study and went on to earn his second master's degree in teaching English. Upon graduation, he began the difficult process of trying to find a job. At each attempt, he was rejected for not being certified, which requires U.S. citizenship.
We Would Move Back in a Minute
Both of us would move back to the U.S. in a minute if there were a way for my partner to get an American green card. We both miss the U.S. and hope some day to return.
