New York Sodomy Law

The New York sodomy law was struck down as an unconstitutional invasion of privacy in the 1980 case People v. Onefre, 415 N.E.2d 936 (N.Y. 1980), but remained on the books for the next 20 years. It was not until Republican Gov. George Pataki signed the Sexual Assault Reform Act in 2000 that the state's "consensual sodomy" statute was formally repealed.
