Domestic partners may make healthcare decisions for their incapacitated partners in the District of Columbia, so long as a guardian has not been appointed for the patient. § 21-2210.An adult may also give another person the authority to make health care decisions on his or her behalf. The health care power of attorney must be in writing, dated and signed by the declarant and 2 adult witnesses. § 21-2205.
All health care facilities, including hospitals, convalescent facilities, or other long term care facilities, shall allow a domestic partner to visit the patient. § 32-704.
Domestic partnership in the District of Columbia is defined under § 32-702.
